When and Where We Meet

We meet on the Third Wednesday of each month except December. We meet at 7pm in the Beecher Room of the Auburn Main Public Library, 350 Nevada Street, Auburn Ca 95603. Meetings are open to all and there is no charge. A donation basket may be passed around to cover the costs of the room rental.

A Typical Guild Meeting

Picture this. A couple of people stroll into the comfortable Beecher Room around 6:55, pull about 12 chairs into a circle, then sit down. Gradually people trickle in, take a seat, and chat about the past month. Shortly after 7, one of the founding members of the guild will bring the meeting to order. Perhaps there will be some very brief business, such as passing on a storytelling request from a community organization or arranging details for an upcoming Tellabration! Then on to the real purpose of the meeting. The facilitator asks how many people have prepared a story to tell. After a show of hands, and some rough division of time, the storytelling begins.

We ask what kind of feedback the teller wants. Does the teller simply want the chance to try out a story in a supportive atmosphere? If so, after the story is over, we will offer appreciations and remark upon the parts of the story that moved us. Does the teller want a more rigorous critique, perhaps in preparation for taking the story out to a fairly demanding audience? If so, we will offer appreciations followed by constructive suggestions for improvement.  Our main purpose is to support tellers at all levels of storytelling and to create an environment that fosters delight in telling and listening to stories.

We end the meetings by 9:00.
